Taking forward optometry in Northern Ireland

Optometry Northern Ireland (ONI) has elected William Stockdale and Jill Campbell (pictured) as chair and vice-chair for the next three years. Together they will lead an ONI Council that brings together a wealth of optometry experience.

William, a contact lens optician in independent practice in North Down, said, ‘Optometry and optics have a great future in Northern Ireland and it is an honour to have the opportunity to help take this forward. The need for eyecare is rising fast and, building on the progress made under Dr Karen Breslin’s leadership, we can ensure we meet that need.’

Optometrist director in Lisburn Specsavers for 15 years, Jill is also head of enhanced optical services for Specsavers in Ireland and a WOPEC lead assessor.

She added, ‘It’s a great privilege to be elected as vice-chair of ONI. I’m looking forward to representing our profession and supporting William as chair. With the backing of ONI Council, we are excited to raise the profile of optometry in Northern Ireland and to work with the Health and Social Care Board to deliver accessible, local eyecare for all our patients.’

Both William and Jill have served on the ONI Council for over ten years.
