Doug Perkins on the future of optometry

At the recent launch of the RNIB and Specsavers ‘State of the Nation Eye Health 2017‘, Doug Perkins, co-founder of Specsavers, took some time out to talk about his vision for the future of optometry.

‘We’re confident that we can be the GP of the eyes,’ he says. ‘This is the cause that we are championing: the recognition of optometrists as champions of changing the model of eyecare.’

He calls on the whole profession to work together to achieve this, ‘because we know that for convenience and reducing stress this is what people want – in the community rather than in hospital.’

Doug Perkins also pays tribute to an ‘ever-closer relationship’ with RNIB: ‘We’re absolutely convinced that in this partnership with RNIB we have the foundation to transform eye health in this country.’
